Over the weekend we reported that John Williams is very close to leaving the Star Wars universe and that Episode IX will more than likely be his last one.
In that same interview, Williams had some interesting tidbits, including that the only reason he’s back is because of Abrams and more importantly, Rey.
In the interview he mentioned that he honestly thinks that Abrams will fix Rey’s story. The fact that Rian Johnson made Rey’s parents junkers instead of more important figures made everyone upset including Williams.
“Rey’s parents might be identified to us in the next film,” Williams told kusc.org.
The interviewer then remarks, “I hope so.”
Williams replied, “I hope so, too.”
The interviewer went on to say, “I assume they are pretty extraordinary. Somebody tried to tell her that they were anonymous people who died in the desert. I don’t believe that.”
“Yes. I don’t believe it either,” Williams said.
Williams made it clear how much he loves the Rey character as a whole and he came back for her.
“I adore.. Rey, of course, is played by Daisy Ridley, who was so loved in The Force Awakens,” Williams said. “Last year when Kathy Kennedy rang me up and asked if I would do the music for the Last Jedi, I said to her, ‘Is Daisy in it?’ And she said, ‘Yes.’ So I said, ‘Yes’ [laughs].”
We’ll just have to wait and see what Abrams decides to do with Rey.
Star Wars: Episode IX has a December 20, 2019, release.
