Joe Shih will be trading in silver for green after this week’s episode of Power Rangers Hyperforce. On episode 21 this week Joe, played by veteran Power Rangers actor, Yoshi Sudarso, was given new powers by his mentor, the former Pink Time Force Ranger Jen Scotts. With the new powers comes a new color and now, the Hyperforce Rangers all share the same colors as the original Rangers in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.
The animal that the Green Hyperforce Ranger represents is a Hydra, and we’re not talking about the Marvel group that’s hellbent on taking over the world, we’re talking about many-headed serpent in Greek mythology. As for the suit, it’s very reminiscent of the Tommy Oliver’s suit in MMPR, mainly because of the shield. However, it says true to the design of the Hyperforce suits, which are a combination of Gobuster from Super Sentai and SPD, the American counterpart to Dekaranger‘s Sentai series. Below is the full suit. The gold, black, and green really work well together.
On Power Rangers Hyperforce, Joe Shih is the brother of Marv Shin, the Red Hyperforce Ranger, who is played by Peter Sudarso, the real-life brother of Yoshi. This marks the second time Power Rangers has had two brothers play sibling on screen. The first was Tommy Oliver played by Jason David Frank and David Trueheart played by his late brother Eric Frank. This is the first time two actual brothers were both Ranger though. Joe came on the scene as the Silver Time Force Ranger that was on a special undercover mission to infiltrate the Alliance.
Joe pops in and out of the series always leaving the door open for his return.
Catch Power Rangers Hyperforce on Tuesday nights from 6 pm – 9 pm PST on HyperRPG’s Twitch Channel. There are only 4 episodes left until the first season of the show is over!
