Marvel Comics has trudged through several line-wide changes in the 2010s. We’ve seen Marvel NOW!, All-New, All-Different Marvel, Marvel NOW! 2.0 and are still in the midst of the Marvel Legacy movement that began last October. It seems that under the watch of newly minted Editor-In-Chief, C.B. Cebulski, that it’s time for another relaunch beginning in May.
In a video released earlier today (and embedded below for your viewing pleasure) Marvel promised new series with new creative teams giving some characters new directions while offering new beginnings for others.
Front and center in the video are old standbys Spider-Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man (the latter of the 3 all seem to titles once again held by the original characters) joined by several other classic Marvel characters, including Wolverine who has been working his way back into continuity. Of course it’s also interesting to note that while characters such as Ironheart, Amadeus Cho and the time-displaced X-kids are absent from the video, newer characters such as Miles Morales, Kamala Khan and Robbie Reyes do appear.
We already have confirmation from Dan Slott that he’ll be taking the reigns as the new writer on Iron Man in the wake of the departure of Brian Michael Bendis for the greener pastures of DC. That of course left an opening on Spider-Man, one that it appears will be filled by Nick Spencer. Longtime Thor creator Jason Aaron is rumored to be working on a new Avengers book along with his longtime artist companion Esad Ribic and Black Panther writer Ta-Nehisi Coates may be in line to take over Captain America following the completion of Mark Waid’s run on the book. With much of that being rumors, hopefully the solicits for May 2018, which should be out later today, may give some insight into what new creative teams we can expect.
