STAR WARS: The Last Jedi Novel To Include Han’s Funeral Scene

To say I was disappointed that they only mentioned Han Solo once in The Last Jedi after his death in The Force Awakens would be an understatement.

The original reason from Rian Johnson was that there just wasn’t any time for a funeral scene. Well, that’s about to change.

Johnson has revealed that the novelization “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will feature several scenes that didn’t make it into the final film, including  Solo’s funeral.

Appearing on the latest episode of THE STAR WARS SHOW, Johnson revealed that he collaborated closely with author Jason Fry on new sequences for the novel. Included in the scenes will be Solo’s funeral, more Canto Bight, and even a sequence with sisters Rose and Paige Tico.

“I got to talk through some interesting additional scenes from the film,” Johnson said. “That’s kind of the fun stuff you can get into a novel that you can’t always get onto the screen.”

Fry went on to add “Rian Johnson and I had an amazing conversation,”. “We got to write entirely new scenes for the book: Han Solo’s funeral, Rose and Paige Tico together, and further explorations of the fascinating world of Canto Bight, to name a few”.

I truly hope that Johnson does my favorite smuggler justice. He deserved alot more in the Last Jedi. I’m also curious to read more about Canto Bight, I felt the casino sequence was way more interesting than anything else that happened there.

We’ll just have to wait till March 6th to find out.

  1. Normally, fans would be ecstatic about more material to go with their favourite film. Who doesn’t want more of a good thing, right? However, in the case of TLJ, it seems like so many Band-Aids™and so much damage control to pacify the legions of justly dissatisfied movie-goers. If Johnson thought much of what was in TFA was important, it would have found complimentary space in TLJ: sadly, not much–if any–did.
