John Williams Gets Oscar Nomination For The Last Jedi

John Williams just earned his 51st Oscar nomination. Yes, 51st!

Along with Williams nomination for BEST SCORE, The Last Jedi received 3 other nominations for Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, and Visual Effects.

Two years ago, he was nominated for his original score for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

This year, Williams’ score faces off against Hans Zimmer’s for “Dunkirk,” Jonny Greenwood’s for “Phantom Thread,” Alexandre Desplat’s for “The Shape of Water” and Carter Burwell’s for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.”

The shortlists for Sound Editing and Sound Mixing are identical, and the movie faces Baby Driver, Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk and The Shape of Water in both cases.

Williams has been nominated for such classics like Saving Private Ryan, E.T., every Star Wars film and Jaws.

He previously won for Jaws, E.T., Star Wars A New Hope and one of my favorite films of all time SCHINDLERS LIST.

I wasn’t sure if The Last Jedi would get any nominations, so I was surprised when they received the 3.

The clear frontrunner this year seems to be The Shape Of Water which leads all films with an amazing 13 Oscar nominations and well deserved.

We’ll just have to wait till March 4th to see who wins.
