Gary Oldman Wants Joaquin Phoenix To Play BATMAN

Gary Oldman has been making the award rounds lately getting nominated everywhere for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the Darkest Hour.

When asked about Batman at the 7th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards, Commissioner Gordon himself told TooFab that Joaquin Phoenix should don the cape after Affleck steps down from the role.

“This is no disrespect to Ben Affleck. I think it really depends on who is at the wheel that lifts it. I would like to see someone like Joaquin Phoenix play it.”

This isn’t the first time that Phoenix’s name has come up to fill the role of the caped crusader. Back when Darren Aronofsky was set to direct Batman: Year One, Phoenix was his top choice.

Earlier this week Reeves gave an update on the upcoming Batman solo movie.

Speaking with The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith, Reeves said of the script: “I am outlining. I have the story worked out, and I am outlining.”

And it was just a couple months ago that Affleck said:

“I want to direct a Batman movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script. And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursing that.

“And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make this movie [Justice League].”
