Kennedy made the shock reveal on the Star Wars Show. She started by warning fans to expect some huge unexpected twists from The Last Jedi as she praised the vision of director Rian Johnson. The Lucasfilm boss said: “There will be some surprises that people are not expecting.” But it was what came next that will ignite a frenzy of speculation among fans. Did the head of all things Star Wars pretty much just reveal who will live to the end of Episode 9 and who is likely to die?
Kennedy started talking about the Lucasfilm and Disney story group of writers who are responsible for maintaining the cohesion and timelines of all the various Star Wars stories on screens big and small. Out of nowhere, Kennedy revealed the characters she expects to feature at the forefront of the next ten years of Star Wars movies following Episode 9. She said:
“We’re sitting down now and we’re talking about the next ten years of Star Wars and we’re looking at narratively where that might go.”
“Future stories beyond Episode 9 with these new characters, Rey, Poe, Finn, BB8… The possibilities are endless.”
This huge revelation immediately throws up tantalizing questions. Does this absolutely confirm that all three of those humans will survive to the end of this current trilogy? Much more upsetting, though, is the implication that one major new character will not. Does Kathleen Kennedy’s huge announcement also mean that other main “new” characters like Kylo Ren will probably not make it out alive? Otherwise, why would she not have included him in the list?
