Daisy Ridley makes her return as Rey in the newest Star Wars film and she revealed today that even she was “surprised” with the plot lines of “The Last Jedi.”
The 25-year-old British actress dished to “GMA” about the skills she honed while shooting the latest film, which hits theaters Dec. 15.
“I think I’m more proficient with a lightsaber,” she said, teasing what fans have already seen in “The Last Jedi” trailers.
“I never really trained before the first one and the second one I was training for like [a] year. So I had more stamina and I felt really strong,” she explained.
Ridley said “it was wonderful” shooting with Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker.
“It was wonderful because obviously I was very lucky to be able to work with Harrison [Ford] and Carrie [Fisher] and when I worked with Mark the first time — we sort of had time, we went for dinner with his family and then we had time for rehearsals and we’re shooting with him a lot which was really amazing,” she said.
Ridley said she screened the film last week and while she doesn’t enjoy watching herself, she admitted “I was more surprised with this one, because there’s like — there’s a few story lines that [are] sort of coming together and connecting.”
“Rey is trying to find out about herself and about the universe and those questions don’t entirely fall to the good nor do they fall entirely to the bad,” Ridley said. “She’s trying to do her own personal growth.”
Even Hamill, a Star Wars veteran, was surprised with the way his character’s journey played out.
“It was as shocking to me to read what Rian [Johnson, the director] had written as I’m sure it will be for the audience,” he said in an interview with ABC News earlier this year.
Asked if Luke would ever turn to the Dark Side, he said, “It’s possible, anything’s possible.”
Ridley has worked alongside three of the franchise’s biggest stars and said Carrie Fisher(Princess Leia) was “really kind.”
“I think Harrison [Ford], her and Mark [Hamill] all very much lead by example, so it wasn’t — like a sit-down of ‘This is what you need to do and this is how it’s going to be,'” Ridley said of Fisher’s advice.
“She’s just lovely. She took good care of me,” Ridley said, adding that they even spent down time singing and dancing together.
