Matt Reeves Reportedly Wants To Replace Ben Affleck With Jake Gyllenhaal As THE BATMAN

During the press junkets for Justice League, Ben Affleck has seemed less enthusiastic about reprising his role as the Dark Knight an could be ready to hang up the cowl and cape. A new report from John Campea claims that The Batman director Matt Reeves has his eye set on Jake Gyllenhaal.

It would seem there are two possible scenarios for a trilogy that are kicking around at Warner Bros. The first would see The Batman set outside of the current DCEU, which means we possibly wouldn’t be seeing Jeremy Irons as Alfred or J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Jim Gordon, which is something I wanted more of in Justice League. The second idea for a trilogy would be placed years before the events of Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. I know what you’re thinking, Jake Gyllenhaal and Ben Affleck don’t really look alike, but seeing as the movie could be 10 years before BvS, so it could work.

Jake Gyllenhaal is no stranger to the caped-crusader. He was a front-runner in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins before ultimately losing out to Christian Bale. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens with The Batman, but this is interesting, to say the least. Ben Affleck has been a standout in the DCEU films he’s appeared in despite the critical and commercial reactions, but all good things must come to an end. We’ll keep you updated on this story as it develops. You can check out John Campea’s video below:
