EXCLUSIVE: Millie Bobby Brown Offered Lead Role in THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE SILVER CHAIR

Back in the mid-aughts, Disney was one of the first studios to try and replicate the success of The Lord of the Rings by filming an adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved children’s fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia. They released two films adapted from installments of the seven book series, with Fox releasing a third, and while they weren’t commercial failures, they never really took off in the zeitgeist. Narnia fans needn’t worry, though, because that isn’t stopping TriStar Pictures from trying to get in on the action, as it was announced last year that they would be tackling another installment in the series, The Silver Chair.

The last big piece of news related to the project was the announcement that Rocketeer and Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston would helm the movie, which follows the characters Jill Pole and Eustace Scrubb as they go on an adventure through Narnia to find a missing prince.

That announcement was back in April, and things have been quiet on the Narnia front since then. Now, however, we can offer a small update on some potential casting. We’ve learned that earlier this year, TriStar extended an offer to Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown for the role of Jill, the lead part in the movie.

TriStar’s attempt to secure Brown for The Silver Chair makes perfect sense. The previous Narnia films made a habit of using unknown actors to fill their child roles. While the first three movies did still have big stars like Liam Neeson and Tilda Swinton in supporting roles, the lack of recognizable faces may have been a factor in the only moderate financial success those movies achieved.

Unlike all those other kids at the time they starred in Narnia films, Millie Bobby Brown is arguably the biggest child star on the planet right now, thanks to her portrayal of Eleven on the phenomenally popular Stranger Things, a role for which she was recently nominated for an Emmy. Having Brown’s face on the posters for The Silver Chair would go a long way towards drumming up excitement for the film.

Sadly, we don’t know the current status of that offer; it’s possible that Brown has already passed on the part and TriStar is looking elsewhere for their leading lady. I think I speak for everyone on the planet, however, when I say that securing Brown’s involvement in The Silver Chair is the best possible move TriStar could make help ensure the movie’s success.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair does not currently have a release date. Let us know in the comments if you’re excited about Brown’s potential involvement.
