James Franco is in talks to be cast as Jamie Madrox aka Multiple Man in the X-Men spin-off (A mutant with the ability to create instant duplicates of himself, Madrox was mainly a minor or supporting character until his appearance in the 1987 miniseries Fallen Angles.)
Deadline is reporting Fox is developing the project with Franco also serving as a producer in addition to starring. Reports initially had Matthew Vaughn slated to direct and serve as another of the film’s producers before being quickly removed as the news began to spread.
The film came out of another collaboration between Franco and Kinberg, The Hardy Men, which Kinberg scripted and is being scripted by Rodney Rothman as a potential star vehicle for both James and Dave Franco, whose Ramona released its first film, the James Franco-directed The Disaster Artist. The idea is for James and Dave Franco to play the grown-up versions of the venerable teen sleuths The Hardy Boys, also for Fox.
After a short detour with X-Men: Apocalypse, the X-Men franchise appears to be back on track with Deadpool 2 June 2, a horror-oriented New Mutants April 13 adaptation and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Even Channing Tatum’s long-gestating Gambit movie is also in development, with Gore Verbinski recently being hired as director. Logan director James Mangold is also developing an untitled spinoff for X-23.
Like always, if the on-again/off-again sale to Disney actually goes through, it’s anyone’s guess as to what happens to Multiple Man and the rest of these carefully laid plans….
Stay tuned for more information on this development.
