When we went looking into Ben Mendelsohn’s role in Captain Marvel, we got more than we bargained for. Earlier this week we got word that Mendelsohn’s would be playing Yon-Rogg. The good news for our readers is that’s not all we have to offer! We also have key details and some guesses about 3 supporting roles in the film that we believe are Skrulls!
Marvel Studios is currently casting for several roles, including these 3 who we believe to be Skrulls!
[Alpha] Female, 20-49. Fight experience. Dance or gymnastics preferred.
[Delta] Male, 20-49. Must be over 6′ tall, broad shouldered and muscular.
[Supporting Male #2] Male, 35-45, a chiseled, cocky guy who is large in stature, but not as big as Delta.
In order of certainty, here’s who we believe they are.
Supporting Male #2 is interesting and may have a whole lot of implications for not only Captain Marvel but also Avengers 4. We are very confident that this role is the Skrull known as Titannus. Titannus was a Skrull born without the shape-shifting capabilities for which the other members of the race are known. After going through the Super Skrull project, Titannus gained incredible strength and a healing factor, but also raged out against his people, causing major destruction before going off-world. Titannus eventually ended up on Earth, under the control of another alien race, fighting an assemblage of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, defeating them all, including the Hulk, time and again before killing himself.
The most interesting thing about Titannus’ assault on Earth was the location. We know that Avengers 4 will take place, in part, in Japan though we don’t have much context for what brings the heroes there in the midst of the Infinity War. We also know that Captain Marvel will emerge from a long absence in Avengers 4. It is interesting that Titannus could be the link given his comic book battle with the Avengers took place in Tokyo. It’s also possible that since Marvel Studios can’t use THE Super-Skrull, they are adapting Titannus in his place. Of course, that’s just speculation on our part, but it’s worth considering. We do believe we’ve already seen the first look at Titannus in the concept art revealed at SDCC ’17, now we’re just waiting to see what part he’ll play in the films!
We don’t know any more about either Alpha or Delta than what we told you above, but we have some ideas about who they might be based on some key players in the Kree-Skrull War and that could possibly set up some major plot points for future film. That having been said, here are our guesses as to who these Skrulls might be:
It’s possible that “Alpha” could be the Skrull princess Anelle. Daughter of the Skrull Emperor Dorrek VII, Anelle would be a VERY interesting addition both for the role she could play in this film and for what she might set up for the future. Anelle’s father, Dorrek, was on the throne when the long-running Kree-Skrull War reignited with Earth as the centerpiece. The Kree presence on Earth raised the suspicion of Dorrek who sent the Super-Skrull to Earth to take on the Kree agent, Mar-Vell. As the Kree-Skrull War raged anew, Anelle and Mar-Vell went full Romeo and Juliet, falling in love with each other and, eventually, producing a hybrid Kree-Skrull child. Anelle sent the child away to Earth, saving his life, where he grew up as Teddy Altman and became the Young Avenger known as Hulkling.
There’s no way of knowing for sure if “Alpha” is Anelle and there are certainly other female Skrulls (like the Super-Skrull known as Godkiller) who could show up in the movie. However, we know the Kree-Skrull war plays a big part in the film and that Anelle’s family plays a big role in it. Time will tell.
As we detailed above, Dorrek VII sat on the Skrull throne when the Kree-Skrull War reignited. While it would take a bit of a retooling of the character, we think that “Delta” might be Dorrek. There has to be at least one Skrull we love to hate and Dorrek would fit that bill. If one of the film’s subplots follows the star-crossed lovers Mar-Vell and Anelle, we could see the worst side of Dorrek when he decrees that their son, his grandson, be killed because he is half-Kree.
Additionally, Dorrek was integral in the Skrull invasion of Earth (see Secret Invasion), which they believed was their prophesied new land. Though he didn’t live to see the invasion because he was murdered by his wife, he was responsible for collecting DNA samples of many of Earth’s heroes, allowing them and their powers to be used by the Skrulls.
There you have it guys! We know the film will feature a heavy dose of Skrulls and that these 3 roles are just the beginning. Of course, there’s every possibility that these Skrulls are among those owned by Fox, so maybe we’ll see an entirely different angle here, but with the rights as complex as they are, there’s no way of knowing who owns what. We do know that we aren’t done bringing you news on Captain Marvel just yet, so keep it here as we continue to deliver on our promise to give you the information you cannot get anywhere else!
