Disney To Stream Both Star Wars And Marvel Live-Action Shows

Strong is The Force with TV as Disney has announced a live-action Star Wars television series will be airing on its recently announced streaming service.

In addition to Disney CEO Bob Iger announcing the new Star Wars movie trilogy, during the company the company’s quarterly earnings call, Iger also announced plans for a live-action Star Wars TV series, which is expected to launch by the end of 2019.

Disney is also working on TV adaptations for Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., Disney Channel’s High School Musical franchise, and it is also announced an original Marvel series will be a part of the new Disney streaming service.

The call also revealed Disney will be creating four or five original movies a year for the streaming service, which is in addition to original TV series, and Iger said the new streaming service would not have traditional forms of advertising such as commercials, but did note sponsorship opportunities may be available.

It’s further revealed the Disney streaming service will be priced “substantially below” Netflix’s $10.99 a month service because the service will have less content overall and they want to attract as many subscribers as possible starting out.

When the Disney streaming service was first announced, Bob Iger also said: “We’re going to launch big, and we’re going to launch hot. It will have the entire output of the studio, animation, live action at Disney, including Pixar, Star Wars and all the Marvel films.”
