Audiences are in LOVE with Pixar’s Coco, but seem to not be in the Holiday Cheer about Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.
If you remember, I had the chance to preview this short at Disney Animation Studios and absolutely LOVED it! The story is fun, the songs are whimsical, and (if you are a fan of Olaf) the short revolves around him.
However, since the release of the short in front of Pixar’s Coco, audience’s seem to be in a rage about the film.

On a side note, #OlafsFrozenAdventure was a total cringe fest that was always either boring or oddly entertaining for all the wrong reasons. Every time a new song broke out, there were audible sighs from the audience.

I’m going to say it, since no one else will. The Frozen short in front of Coco is a giant piece of frozen shit. Olof made me want to punch myself in the face.

However, there are those, like me, who loved it!
and to all the cynics who whined about the new #Frozen short that was played before #Coco all I have to say is you all have some personal issues. It was a beautiful little story about Christmas traditions. I thought it was wonderful, especially the ending.#OlafsFrozenAdventure pic.twitter.com/bAHtodqtCH

But, more often than not, people are angry about it. What I’ve gathered from reading all the hate, and experiencing it myself in the theater before seeing Coco (for the 2nd time) I have to agree with some of the criticism.
- With a running time of 21 minutes, it’s WAAAAY too long to put in front of a full length feature film and the previews that come along with it.
- Pixar has been nominated and won multiple Academy Awards, including last year’s Piper. People love Pixar Shorts and with a new Pixar Film coming to theaters, audiences were excited to see what Pixar had in store next only to be thrown a Disney Animation Frozen Disney “Short”.
- People are over Frozen. Personally, I LOVE(D) Frozen. I would walk home from work singing the songs and putting on my BEST Drag number to “Let It Go”, Mama Ru would be proud. But, with the overhype, songs be overplayed by children torturing their parents ear drums; having to wait in line for hours just to get a Fastpass for the Balcony of Disney California Adventure’s Frozen Show. Now, 4 years later, we’re getting a Broadway Musical. People are Frozen’d out! As charming as Josh Gad is, they are Olaf’d out.
If Disney learns anything from the Olaf’s Frozen Adventure backlash, it may be time for them to Let It Go and charm us with something new instead of beating a dead Sven.
