Those were the words that Rob Liefeld shouted to a small crowd gathered around the Hot Topic Main Stage at L.A Comic Con this past Sunday. The comic artist was specifically referencing the Han Solo film which releases one week before Deadpool 2. Here is the exact quote from comicbook.com,
“But Disney is delusional and is opening ‘Han Solo’ a week before ‘Deadpool!’ And they are going to get their asses kicked! Seven days later; mark my word, skeptical man! [points to audience member] Mark my words: Han Solo, get the hell out of the summer, ’cause seven days later, an army of mercenaries is coming to send the Falcon into hyperspace! Disney I apologize in advanced, but I’m telling the truth: Deadpool is going to kick your ass.”
Although, a stunt performer was tragically killed on the set of Deadpool, the Han Solo film has been plagued with production problems including a change in directorialship, and rumors that an acting coach had to be brought in for Alden Ehrenreich. Production problems occur on every film, and is rarely indicative of the final product, but for a film that no one really asked for (sorry Disney) it’s not very promising.
However, we’ll still have to see how either film will fare considering that May and June 2018 are particularly stacked with Avengers: Infinity War, Ocean’s Eight, The Incredibles 2, and Jurassic World 2. This is an awesome lineup for filmgoers, but for studios and filmmakers this is the kind of thing that draws a bit of anxiety.
Solo: A Star Wars Film will be released on May 25th, 2018
Deadpool 2 will be released on June 1st, 2018
