We are just a couple of weeks away from Thor: Ragnarok to hit theaters, but that doesn’t stop us from speculating what could be in the future for the God of Thunder. Marvel is known for taking stories from their source material and tweaking them for the big screen like Planet Hulk in Ragnarok and the Civil War storyline in Captain America: Civil War. At one point in the comics, Jane Foster was the one to wield the Mighty Mjolnir, becoming Thor.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige answered this very question during an interview with movies.com, and at the very least it seems like an avenue that Marvel Studios could explore.
“We always look back to the comics to get those ideas … sometimes very specific storylines like “Civil War,” sometimes just nuggets or characters like “Planet Hulk. So anything that’s happened in the comics, even a female Thor, become great potentials and the ideas from which future movies can be born.”
We know that Chris Hemsworth will be back for Infinity War, but if Hemsworth does end up stepping away from the role or taking a lesser role in the franchise this could set up the future of the character. Honestly, I’d love to see Valkyrie played by Tessa Thompson take the mantle of Thor and posses Mjilnor, but only time will tell. For our thoughts on Thor: Ragnarok, check out our review.
