Hela is Marvel’s latest villain in THOR: RAGNAROK, depicting the goddess of death and ruler of the realms of Hel. Played by Cate Blanchett, she appears to be a foe that might actually get the best of Thor. And if she survives THOR: RAGNAROK, it’s possible we might be seeing more of her in future Marvel movies.
During a press junket earlier last month, Cate Blanchett responds to a question about what it was like fighting with Chris Hemsworth (who plays Thor) and while explaining what her training process was like she says “..when I started, I had to manifest these weapons out of my -I’m not spoiling anything by saying that..” as she looks towards Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, and adds “Have I lost my chance to be in the sequel?”. Of course, it was a funny and playful moment coming from Cate Blanchett and it’s possible it’s just a joke. But what if there was more truth underlying her words? It’s possible that Hela might be a reoccurring character in the Marvel EU and here’s why.
Spoilers Ahead: You’ve Been Warned
During THOR: RAGNAROK, the movie makes multiple references to Thanos who is expected to appear in Marvel’s upcoming film Avenger’s: Infinity War. It’s possible that Hela will make an appearance at the end of Infinity War and introduced as Thanos’ love interest. In the comic books, Thanos continuously tries to court the Mistress/Lady Death. It is because of her that Thanos desires the Infinity Gems in order to become a supreme being and worthy of her love. Hela, who is the Goddess of Death, might replace the Mistress/Lady Death in the cinematic universe and earn a spot in Infinity War 1 & 2.
