The first appearances of Han Solo, Chewbacca, Luke and Leia were mined for emotional impact in The Force Awakens and this latest reunion will thrill audiences for The Last Jedi.
Ever since the shocking sudden death of Carrie Fisher last Christmas, fans have speculated about how Leia’s story would be handled and resolved in Episode 8 now that the actress will not be able to participate in the final movie in the saga.
The loss of Han Solo also makes the thought of seeing the Skywalker twins reunited even more bittersweet. With everything that has been revealed about the upcoming instalment, how can they possibly share the screen again?
A new leak has described a scene that will “reduce fans to tears.”
Star Wars Youtube channel Mike Zeroh cites sources at Pinewood and other Lucasfilm sets.
He says: “John Williams himself composed a very specific track for Star wars The Last Jedi that will go alongside the scene and will leave fans teary-eyed. It will not feature the Skywalker twins, sadly.”
The new scene will be part of the opening act of the movie and is set on Ahch-To.
STAR WARS 8: OPENING CRAWL AND FIRST SCENE DESCRIBED
Zeroh added: “In this scene, which is happening, Luke Skywalker will come face to face with Chewbacca and he will hug him. Chewbacca is the link to Luke Skywalker mourning the loss of Han Solo.
“It may be the most emotional scene of the trilogy so far.”
Star Wars site MakingStarWars.Net also quoted people from the production who said that fans will cry when they see the film, specifically this scene.
Luke may be incredibly powerful and able to sense disturbances in the Force like the Jedi legends that went before him, but it is likely this will how he actually learns of the death of his old friend.
In doing so, he will also be forced to face his fears, regrets and guilt about Kylo Ren all over again.
Fans know by now that Kylo Ren either killed or corrupted Luke’s former Jedi students when he defected to the Dark Side.
Now Luke will learn that his nephew also killed his own father. He will feel the loss of his friend, he will feel grief for the pain this has caused his sister, Leia, and he will feel an onslaught of conflicting emotions about the man formerly known as Ben Solo.
