In an effort to combat online leakers – you know who you are – HBO says Game Of Thrones will begin filming multiple endings for the series. In case you live under a rock, Game of Thrones is one of the biggest shows on television. Season after season, the show has been plagued with spoilers and hacks. At this point in the series, the story has passed the books they are based on making the effort to keep the lid on spoilers the main priority for the producers. After multiple episodes leaked online during this past season, their fear of the series ending being spoiled for their fans isn’t far fetched.
What we know: Game Of Thrones will be shooting four different versions of the final episode to help combat any spoilers.
“I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really knows what happens. You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.” – HBO President Casey Bloys
This isn’t the first time Thrones has filmed multiple scenes in order to throw off the spoilers. Kit Harington (John Snow) once said in an interview about season 7,
“What I can say about this season is: we had a lot of paparazzi following us around, especially when we were in Spain, and we did fake some scenes. We put together people in situations where we knew the paparazzi were around so they’d take photos and that would get on the internet to fake scenes so people would think they were real.”
So, turns out this method works (so far) and HBO will continue to take the necessary precautions.
