Over a year ago Sam Raimi signed on to direct a remake of the award-winning foreign language film A Prophet. The 2009 film won a BAFTA, the Cannes Grand Prix and was the recipient of almost unanimous praise by critics (it currently sits at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes). The film follows 19 year old French-Algerian Malik. Imprisoned in France, Malik works his way through the ranks of the crime syndicate and eventually becomes the kingpin. While little has been heard about the film since early 2016, Raimi and crew are hoping to begin production late this year and have reached out to two major names to head the cast. According to a source, Raimi is eyeing Michael B. Jordan for the lead role of “Marcos ‘Mark’ Colon” and Josh Brolin as “Cesar.”
Though neither actor has signed on for the role, landing them both would be a major boost for the film. Jordan’s star is rising meteorically thanks to his role in Creed and early reports suggest that his villainous turn as Killmonger in the upcoming Black Panther will take the star to another level. Brolin continues a fantastic career revival, starring as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and as the time-traveling mutant Cable in Deadpool 2. Should the pair agree to sign on to the film, the production schedule should shape up pretty quickly.
