Dive Into The Unique Soundscapes Of Studio Ghibli With ‘Vitamin String Quartet: The World of Studio Ghibli’

Vitamin String Quartet will release ‘Vitamin String Quartet: The World of Studio Ghibli,’ a 12-track compilation diving into the unique soundscapes of the Japanese animation and film giant. This vinyl release drops on Black Friday Record Store Day and features clear, 180-gram vinyl, a download card, and full-color sleeve. The digital album will release worldwide on Dec.1.

With tracks from the early Ghibli animations, including a supernatural version of “On a Clear Day” from the 1988 Kiki’s Delivery Service, to a poignant rendition of “Fine on the Outside” from the 2014 When Marnie Was There, this collection delivers an unlikely twist on the hit studio’s most iconic composers, directors, and screenwriters.

Vitamin String Quartet (VSQ) is widely regarded as the source for turning contemporary popular songs into instrumental pieces. The group, produced by LA-based indie CMH Label Group, features a rotating cast and has released over 300 records. VSQ has evolved from its more musically open origins to taking on the unique challenge of arranging rock, pop, metal, punk, techno, country and hip-hop songs solely for four instruments, “[transforming] your favorite pop songs into works of art” (Buzzfeed).

Since its founding in 1999, VSQ has created cutting-edge renditions of the hits of artists ranging from Ed Sheeran to Star Wars, Daft Punk to Kanye West, Ozzy Osbourne to Jason Mraz and countless more. VSQ “[brings] the drama or mainstream composition into the classical community” (NY Observer), while amassing more than 4 million downloads, over 1 million physical units sold, over 250 million streams, numerous Billboard chartings, in addition to prominent placements across TV and film. VSQ’s music was recently featured on the popular HBO series Westworld with its renditions of Nine Inch Nails’ “Something I Can Never Have” and Radiohead’s “Motion Picture Soundtrack.” VSQ has also been featured on other hits shows such as Modern Family, Shameless, and Gossip Girl.

Similar to Studio Ghibli, VSQ is popular with students as study music. They maintain study playlists and try to keep the theme running throughout their socials and are looking to raise awareness with more students, teachers and schools. VSQ produces print and digital sheet music for some its arrangements, marketed to string musicians, including music students and educators.
