It looks like we know what the next Star Wars anthology film is going to be after Han Solo. It’s been long rumored for a while now but it seems that Lucasfilm is hard at work on their Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Lucasfilm & Disney are in talks with 3x Academy Award-nominated director Stephen Daldry (The Reader, Billy Elliot) to lead an upcoming spin-off movie centered on the fan-favorite Jedi.
The project is just getting started so there is not a script currently, but f the Daldry’s deal goes through, he would be in charge of developing and writing the script with the team of Lucasfilm scribes. The elephant in the room is whether Ewan McGregor (Fargo) will reprise his role as the legendary Jedi from the prequels and that is yet to be determined but we do know that he said he would be open to coming back. We also don’t know when this film will take place in the Star Wars continuity but we can assume that it would be between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
Variety adds that the studio is undecided on when the release of this film will be and that there are several solo films based on Yoda and Boba Fett in different stages of development over at Lucasfilm and either one of those properties could have the 2020 film release if Obi-Wan isn’t ready to go.
