Mark Hamill On Luke Skywalker’s Unknown Journey STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI And THE FORCE AWAKENS

Something we’ve all been wondering since the announcement of The Force Awakens is what was Luke Skywalker up to? In 2015 Disney and Lucasfilm began to slowly fill in the gaps with detailed plans for the series that was called,”Journey To The Force Awakens.” There were a number of novel and comic series that were going to give us the untold stories between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Mark Hamill recently touched on this in an interview.

The only thing missing from these series of stories was the whereabouts of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill recently touched on this in an interview and even he’s not sure what Luke has been up to. The actor resorted to creating his own backstory to fill in the blanks for arriving on Ach-To, Kylo Ren’s betrayal, and even his self-imposed exile. Here’s what Hamill had to say.

“Absolutely [this Luke is different and unfamiliar]. Luke changed, I think, more than the other characters in the original trilogy, from callow farm boy to a Jedi in training to finally a Jedi master. What you’re talking about is what really fascinated me. Between “Return of the Jedi” and “Force Awakens,” there’s just decades of history that’s unknown. ”

“So I was wondering how they’re going to handle all this. Now, obviously, with “Force Awakens,” J.J. (Abrams) had a full plate. It was inevitable that they would push me down the line. I was sorry I wasn’t able to work with any of the original actors again. But it’s not about us anymore”.

“In this new one, I was saying to Rian Johnson: I need to know my backstory. It was kind of unclear. You read where he is now and what he’s doing now and sort of have to fill in the blanks for yourself. So I did do a backstory myself. It’s not about Luke anymore, so it’s not really important. But I had to make sense of it for myself. What Rian came up with, I was stunned.”

There’s a chance we could get the backstory told in additional comics or novel, or maybe even in a Star Wars Anthology film. There’s also the chance that they want Luke’s mythology to remain a mystery, but we doubt that this story wouldn’t be told. There are a lot of ideas and theories out there surround Luke’s whereabout and the journey he’s taken. There’s a lot of stories to tell it’s only a matter of time until we get the answer to how Luke found his way to Ach-To and if any other Jedi’s trained with Luke before Kylo Ren’s betrayal.
