Chiwetel Ejiofor In Talks To Play ‘Scar’ In Disney’s CGI/Live-Action ‘Lion King’

‘Be Prepared!’ … well maybe. Oscar nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave, Doctor Strange, and of course Serenity) is in talks to play Scar in the upcoming CGI/live-action Lion King remake. First reported by The Wrap, Ejiofor would play the evil uncle to Donald Glover’s Simba. If cast, Ejiofor would join James Earl Jones (Mufasa), John Oliver (Zazu), Billy Eichner (Timon), Seth Rogan (Pumba), and with Jon Favreau at the helm to direct his second live-action Disney film (The Jungle Book).

The English actor, Ejiofor would be the third actor to play Scar. Jeremy Irons first voiced the titular villain in the 1994 original Disney film and distinguished voice actor Jim Cummings in The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride. It was first rumored that Hugh Jackman was set to star after D23 Expo but the actor has since debunked those rumors.

The remake of The Lion King will be in theaters on July 19, 2019.
