Warner Bros. Planning WONDER WOMAN Oscar Campaign

This year’s Oscars saw Suicide Squad snag an Academy Award for best makeup, but this year it seems that Warner Bros. will be campaigning hard for a Wonder Woman nomination for Best Picture and Best Director. Patty Jenkins has already made an impressive $781 million at the box office to become the highest grossing movie ever directed by a female.

Men have only ruled the Best Director category outside of Kathryn Bigelow’s win for the Hurt Locker in 2010 so this would be groundbreaking if Jenkins were to capture the Oscar. Not only for having a female director at the helm of the film, but this would be the first superhero film nominated as well. Comic book movies don’t have the best history at the award ceremony with talented directors like Christopher Nolan being snubbed for The Dark Knight.  Some are already calling the studio foolish for investing in such a large campaign for the film. It won’t be cheap for all of the advertising that goes into an Oscar campaign, but we’d love to see Wonder Woman and Patty Jenkins walk away as Oscar winners. The awards-season race usually starts in the fall, though movies released earlier in the year like “Mad Max: Fury Road”, can make a comeback and rally with plenty of nominations, so we’ll remain optimistic.
