This morning Nintendo live streamed a Pokemon Direct announcement for three upcoming Pokemon releases. Pokken Tournament DX, which is a battle style game, will be available for the Switch on September 22, 2017. They will be providing a playable demo of this game at E3 along with an Invitational Tournament set for Wednesday, June 14th.
A re-release of Pokemon Gold and Silver will be made available on the same day, September 22, 2017. Gold/Silver was originally released in 1999 as the second installment of the series.
And finally, the most anticipated announcement since last November, deluxe edition re-release titled Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon will be available November 17, 2017.
However, what fans seem most disappointed about is that it will not be available for the Switch. This will be a 3DS title only. Since last November, rumors of a Sun/Moon re-release were circling around under the name Pokemon Stars but it seems like what people were hoping for the most was that it will be playable on the latest console. Although the website listed the Switch as one of the playable outlets, Nintendo quickly removed it and announced it as an error. It seems that Nintendo has no intention of releasing Pokemon Ultra on the Switch at all. The new editions will feature an alternate storyline with new Pokemon, but more details won’t be revealed until later this year. It seems like we will still have to hold out for a mainline Pokemon game to appear on the Switch.
