Tremors Is Back . . . Again

Who remembers the amazingly campy 90’s movie starring Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Michael Gross, and Reba McEntire about giant man-eating worms that live in the desert? What about the sequel with returning stars Fred Ward and Michael Gross? The third movie with just Michael Gross (also featuring bipedal graboids that fly via flaming farts)? The SyFy series with just Michael Gross? How about the 4th movie that was a prequel set in the 19th century . . . also starring, you guessed it Michael Gross? Well, it looks like SyFy is looking to return to that well in the middle of the desert for a new Tremors movie starring none other than . . . wait for it . . . Kevin Bacon! You thought it was going to be Michael Gross again, right?

Kevin Bacon expressed interest in returning to the universe back in 2015 and has teamed up with both SyFy and Blumhouse to make it happen. According to Deadline,

In the new Tremors written by Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle), the killer Graboid worms that nearly destroyed Perfection, NV, 25 years ago are back, and the town’s only hope for survival is Valentine McKee (Bacon), who beat them once. But to do it again he’ll have to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.

Based off this synopsis, it’s hard to tell if this new movie will be retconning the universe and pretending all Michael Gross’s adventures in Perfection, NV outside the first movie never happened or if it will continue where the series left off.

Something I found rather interesting, if a bit odd is that Bacon said,

“This is the only character I’ve played that I’ve ever thought about revisiting. I just got to thinking, ‘Where would this guy end up after 25 years?’ ”

I find it hard to believe that out of all the characters Kevin Bacon has been, THIS is the only character he’s thought about revisiting. Personally, I’m kinda interested in seeing what they do with the film, I am a bit concerned about the effects.

The original film actually did a really good job with practical effects and I’d hate to see them go all out with CG on a TV movie budget, while I’ve seen good CG on TV before, I’ve also seen a lot of SyFy Originals and know what most of them look like.

So, what about you guys? Is this the role you’ve been waiting to see Kevin Bacon come back to?
