GHOSTBUSTERS Heat Up Their Proton Packs in Ghostbusters 101 #4

Ghostbusters 101 #4 Review

Issue # of IDW’s Ghostbusters 101 revealed that the Ghostbusters from the prime universe believe to have sent out the idea of ghost busting after they crossed their streams while fighting Gozer. Due to the prime universe’s interns, tampering with an inter-dimensional portal co-created by Donatello from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Dr. Egon Spengler, the 2016 Ghostbusters have arrived in the prime universe!

Ghostbusters 101 #4 sees the two Ghostbuster teams work together to stop pirate ghosts while looking for to correct the overlapping dimensions.

Ghost pirates are always fun!

There is plenty of time for analysis, Ray!

My analysis is, this comic is great! Every inter-dimensional crossover plot is pretty much the same. Ghostbusters 101 isn’t much different. I’m glad that the story has had a slow pace. The first few issues spent time introducing all of its characters and getting the reader acquainted with both worlds. The two Ghostbuster teams don’t meet until issue #3, which surprised, but pleased me.

Every inter-dimensional crossover plot is pretty much the same. Ghostbusters 101 isn’t much different. I’m glad that the story has had a slow pace. The first few issues spent time introducing all of its characters and getting the reader acquainted with both worlds. I was surprised, but pleased, that it took 3 issues for the two Ghostbuster teams to finally meet.

Issue #4 is packed with the same humor that you would expect from Ghostbusters and inter-dimensional travel allows the Ghostbusters to be meta about their film careers. For instance, when Ray alludes to Billy Murray in Caddyshack.

This issue felt like what most issue #1s are like in crossovers. The characters talked about the differences in their respective universes and set the stage for the plot. Writer Erik Burham captures each character perfectly, from Venkman’s sarcasm to Holtzmann’s zany trigger happy physical comedy.

The artist, Dan Shoening nails each character’s likeness while maintaining his cartoonish style.

Ghostbusters 101 #4 is available June 2017.
