Blu Hunt has been cast as Danielle Moonstar in Fox’s X-Men spinoff “New Mutants.”
She joins Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, and Henry Zaga in the movie with Josh Boone directing. Rosario Dawson has been in negotiations. The project will focus on mutant teens learning to cope with their superpowers who must escape a secret facility.
Danielle Moonstar is of Native American decent and hails from the Cheyenne Nation. In the past, Danielle struggled to control her abilities, which involved creating visible images of people’s greatest fears. The only people who stood by Danielle’s side through her difficult adolescence were her parents, William and Peg Lonestar, and her grandfather, the chief and shaman of her people, Black Eagle. In addition to being a member of the New Mutants, “Dani” Moonstar has also been affiliated with multiple super hero groups from the Marvel Universe, including, but not limited to: The X-Men, The Defenders, Young X-Men, the Mutant Liberation Front, the Valkyrie Initiative and more!
The New Mutants is described by Boone (The Fault In Our Stars) as “a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe,” one without costumes or supervillains. A plot synopsis suggests the film will deviate significantly from the source material: “Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.”
