You know the thing about comics? Everyone comes back from the dead at some point.
Since the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, there has been some speculation as to whether or not Michael Rooker’s Yondu will be returning in any future Marvel films. The ambivalence that Rooker has presented in interviews has not helped with the speculation. However, it appears that we may have an answer. Based off of a casting notice that has been released via a post found on Worldwide Entertainment Network, it looks like we may be getting some more of our favorite blue-skinned alien.
No official announcement has been made yet announcing Rooker’s return, but this casting notice does let us know that he will be coming back in some capacity. However, now we get to speculate what purpose his reappearance will serve. Will he just be popping in for a flashback with his old Raiders gang? Considering Yondu and his gang were known for fetching things for a certain price, perhaps that could tie into how Thanos originally acquired the Mind Stone. I mean, the sky is the limit for what they could do on that front.
Or will he be revived from the ashes with one of the Infinity stones? Perhaps he may be brought back by the Soul Gem? The Soul Gem has yet to make a noteworthy appearance in the MCU. All we know is that it is orange and that, according to Kevin Feige, it will make an appearance sometime in Phase 3 because certain gauntlets need to be filled. And, with the introduction of Adam Warlock at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, this potential route of speculation has more weight. Warlock was a known wielder of the Soul Gem in the comics.
What do you think? What purpose do you think Yondu’s reappearance will serve? Let us know your thoughts and theories below.
