DOCTOR WHO: Clara Could Be About to Return for the Christmas Special

(Warning: This article contains potential spoilers for Peter Capaldi’s final episode of Doctor Who which airs this Christmas. Please read at your own risk.)

Season ten of Doctor Who is three weeks in and it’s proving to be an absolute blast! Most fans are aware that season 10’s Christmas episode marks the end of traveling in the TARDIS for Peter Capaldi and showrunner, Steven Moffat.

According to reports, Capaldi has already filmed his regeneration scene as the Doctor, and all that’s left to do is shoot the annual festive special. Filming for that episode will begin shooting in July and David Bradley, who portrayed William Hartnell in the docudrama, An Adventure in Space and Time, is rumored to be returning to the franchise as the 1st Doctor in what is said to be a tale of redemption and hope, but could we also be seeing the return of a well-known companion?

Clara Oswald, played be Jenna Coleman, could be on her way back for this epic Christmas episode to witness Capaldi passing the torch to our next Doctor. Clara met an early demise during season nine but was resurrected in the season finale. Clara now has her own TARDIS in the form of Eddie’s Diner and is traveling around space and time with Ashildr (Maisie Williams). According to sources on Twitter, it appears that Eddie’s Diner has been booked by the BBC’s Doctor Who for two days of filming. The tweet read:

“Eddie’s Diner got booked by the BBC for filming in July for 2 days. Given the fact that my friend asked the owner about Doctor Who, and did his Doctor Who photos in the Diner, I’m sure that he means Doctor Who. I only got the date of July… No specific date was given.”

Exact filming dates weren’t disclosed but people approaching Eddie’s Diner were told that filming would be taking place in July. We have yet to hear any official word from the BBC or Jenna Coleman herself so at this point, it remains unknown if Clara is returning. If this does manage to happen to could be the send off for Steven Moffat similar to what Russel T. Davies did for his departure in 2010, where the 10 Doctor (David Tennant) went to visit all of his companions on last time before his regeneration. For now, we’ll just have to wait for official word, but in the meantime, we’ll continue to enjoy Peter Capaldi’s final run with newcomer companion, Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie.
