This Friday (May 5th, 2017) sees the release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and I would say is officially kicking off Blockbuster Season (yeah, Fast & Furious 8 was probably the real start, but whatever). So I thought I’d give you the list of movies I’m excited to see this year and by extension, that you should be excited for as well.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – May 4th
The first one is probably in my top 4 or 5 favorite Marvel films (not including the Bill Bixby era made-for-TV Incredible Hulk movies). While most of the Marvel films follow the same formula (guy who’s sorta kinda a dick becomes a hero), Guardians took that formula and just owned it, Star Lord even called attention to it in a sorta Meta way with his message to Corpsman Dey. Even if Volume 2 doesn’t do anything new, I’ll be happy with more of the same.
Alien Covenant – May 17th:
I know I’m in the minority, but I actually enjoyed Prometheus. Sure it had some problems and left us with a lot of questions about who the “Engineers” were and why dude they woke up at the end was so pissed off immediately, but I think it did an adequate job of setting up a rebooted Alien universe. Also, Covenant has Danny Mcbride, it’s a Sci-Fi horror, with Danny Mcbride, if for that reason alone I need to see it.
Baywatch – May 25th:
I really can’t give you a good reason why I want to see this . . . just watch the trailer and try not to laugh even a little bit.
The new Pirates of the Caribbean movie also comes out this month, but honestly, I couldn’t care less, I was done with that franchise after the 2nd one. I enjoyed the first 2, but I stopped being interested after that.
Head over to the next page for June.
