The Force Awakens was a trip down memory lane seeing Han, Luke, and Leia on the big screen once more, but conspicuous by his absense was Lando Calrissian. Some hold Lando in the same light as the “Big 3”, and afterall, he did help lead the Rebel fleet attack on the second Death Star and he was the one that delivered the final blow to the main reactor. Though, Lando didn’t appear in the series until half way through the Empire Strikes Back, it looks like Billy Dee Williams won’t be returning back for The Last Jedi.
During his Smooth Talkin’ With Billy Dee Williams panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, the actor revealed he is not going to appear in The Last Jedi. Fandango‘s Erik Davis shared the news on his Twitter account:

This news may be frustrating to fans, but The Last Jedi does have a lot to balance including Rey training in the ways of the Force with Luke, introducing new characters that are being played by Laura Dern, Benicio del Toro, and Kelly Marie Tran, and developing all of the returning characters, which we assume will take up most of the screen time. If you are dying to see some Lando, fear not! Donald Glover will be portraying a younger Lando in Han Solo spinoff.
