Lucasfilm Has No Plans to Restore Theatrical Cuts of Original STAR WARS Trilogy

Ever since Disney acquired the company, fans have wondered if we’d ever get to see the restored versions of the theatrical cuts of Lucas’ classic Star Wars trilogy to Blu-ray, especially since Lucas himself is no longer in the picture. We’ve heard rumors recently that we’d be getting the classics but that has since been debunked. More recently many were expecting to see a special release of the original trilogy to coincide with the 4oth anniversary, but sadly we didn’t get that either.

Don’t hold your breath for the restored HD versions of the original theatrical cut for the original trilogy. Movie Web reports that during a recent appearance on the Steele Wars Podcast, Kathleen Kennedy was asked about the possibility and here’s what she had to say.

“I wouldn’t touch those, are you kidding me? [laughs] Those will always remain his.”

In the same interview, Kennedy also revealed that there isn’t technically an agreement in place that prevents Lucasfilm or Disney from opting to restore the theatrical cuts, but since she’s pretty much the top dog at Lucasfilm, it’s doubtful we’ll be seeing this happen.
