“It’s an awesome role” exclaimed Jason Mamoa, who will be appearing as the King of Atlantis later this fall in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and with production to start soon on his follow-up solo adventure, Aquaman to begin next month, Momoa shared new details on the the Atlantean King’s first full-length film.
This will be Aquaman’s first big screen solo outing and the Hawaiian actor portraying him sat down with GQ for a profile where he talked about some of his passions and touched on his excitement for Aquaman and setting the tone for the role. “We’ve never really seen anything from this guy before, so it’s fun to have a level playing field. There aren’t like four Aquaman’s before me. I get to set the tone for it.” Momoa then went on to talk about character details and backstory for his version of Aquaman. “The guy was never really accepted on land, and he was never really accepted in Atlantis. He’s a half-breed. But he’s the best of both worlds. He just doesn’t know how to handle his powers. So it’s kind of a coming of age for a young man to a man, or a man to a king. He’s lost a lot of things and he’s got to cope. He’s an outsider.“
