Marvel’s NEW WARRIORS Featuring Squirrel Girl Coming to Freeform

We are finally going to get Squirrel Girl! Marvel was developing a a New Warriors TV series with ABC, and now THR is reporting that the show has actually been ordered as a 10-part, 30-min live-action comedy on the Freeform Network. According the the trade, Kevin Biegel, creator of Cougar Town and Executive Producer of Scrubs, will serve as the shows showrunner.

As previously reported, Doreen Green AKA Squirrel Girl, will be a member of the roster along with 5 other unnamed characters. There have been many incarnations of The New Warriors over the years so we’re not quite sure which roster we’ll be seeing, but personally I’d love to see Speedball and Darkhawk! Squirrel Girl is described here as “a totally empowering fan girl who is tough, optimistic and a natural leader.”

New Warriors revolves around about six young people with powers living and working together. With powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of The Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world … even if the world isn’t ready. With Freeform focused on a group dubbed “becomers” — those experiencing a series of firsts in life including first loves and first jobs — New Warriors explores the journey into adulthood, except in this world, they’re not quite super and not yet heroes and the guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.
