The upcoming tenth season of Doctor Who will sadly be Peter Capaldi’s last in the title role, as he announced earlier this year that he will be exiting the series during the Christmas Special. Although Capaldi still loves Doctor Who and is sad to leave it behind, he said that he had “never done one job for three years before and I feel it’s time for me to move on to different challenges.” BBC America have released a new trailer for Capaldi’s final season, which gives us a brief look at the variety of baddies the good Doctor will find himself faced with. Check it out!
Not counting Christmas Specials, it’s been quite some time since we last saw Peter Capaldi in the role, but with just slightly over a month to go until the new season, Doctor Who fans won’t have much longer to wait. Where’s a TARDIS when you need one. The tenth season will see Capaldi joined by Pearl Mackie, who will be playing the Doctor’s new companion Bill, as well as Little Britain’s Matt Lucas as Nardole. Peter Capaldi won’t be the only one departing the series, as current show-runner Steven Moffat will also be leaving at the same time. Moffat will be replaced by Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch) and in a statement, Moffat said:
For years before I ever imagined being involved in Doctor Who, or had ever met the man, I wanted to work with Peter Capaldi. I could not have imagined that one day we’d be standing on the TARDIS together. Like Peter, I’m facing up to leaving the best job I’ll ever have, but knowing I do so in the company of the best, and kindest and cleverest of men, makes the saddest of endings a little sweeter. But hey, it’s a long way from over. Peter’s amazing, fiery, turbulent Doctor is still fighting the good fight, and his greatest adventures are yet to come. Monsters of the universe, be on your guard – Capaldi’s not done with you yet!
The tenth season of Doctor Who will debut on BBC 1 and BBC America on April 15, 2017.
