After publicly announcing his retirement in 2013, famed director Hayao Miyazaki has begun “prep work” on a new feature film, according to Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki during an Academy Awards press event (via Kyodo News).
Although Miyazaki publicly retired from feature filmmaking in 2013, the animator continued to work at Studio Ghibli, including learning more about computer animation for a short film titled Kemushi no Boro.
Studio Ghibli tentatively plans for Miyazaki’s as-yet-untitled film to be released in before the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
I can’t wait for him to come back. What about you guy? Ready for actual animation films again?
