BLACK LIGHTNING Cast Cress Williams in Lead Role as Jefferson Pierce

Following our recent character breakdowns for The CW’s Black Lightning, we now know who is playing the titular character. THR reports that TV vet Cress Williams has been cast as the retired superhero who must once again suit-up as his old alter-ego when one of his daughters falls in with a criminal gang.

Williams is no strangers to the small screen with appearances in Prison Break, Beverly Hills 90210, CW’s Hart of Dixie, Friday Night Lights, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Cress has also had a brush with DC Comics show the Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman playing Baron Sunday.

Black Lightning will be written and produced by Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil, alongside Greg Berlanti. There’s no set premiere date just yet.

  1. I can’t wait to see this show, Black Lightning is one of the most underrated African American superheroes and I’m glad that he’s getting a show, bout time he got some recognition, now I wonder what suit they’re gonna use
