STAR WARS 8 director Rian Johnson has revealed plot details surrounding Rey and Luke Skywalker.
The film will come out in December, a full two years after its predecessor Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
So far the plot details have been keep well under-wraps, as has the film’s main title, but now the director has let slip a few juicy bits of information.
Speaking with USA Today, Johnson revealed his approached to Episode VIII and how Rey and Luke play a key role.
He said: “I don’t want to skip ahead two years.
“I want to see the very next moment of what happens… part of what’s she’s [Rey] dealing with is the realisation that she has this power and this gift.
“She’s taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential.”
The very last scene of The Force Awakens saw Rey finding Luke in his exile on Ahch-To.
Having landed in the Millennium Falcon, she approaches the Jedi on a small green island before outstretching her hand, containing his lightsaber.
This very lightsaber was the one Luke with his hand, when Darth Vader cut it off in a pivotal scene of Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
According to Johnson Episode VIII will take place moments after that exact scene, despite a two year gap after the last film’s cinematic release.
