With the first installment of the Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them series about to be released in theaters, it isn’t surprising to find out plotting for the upcoming sequel is already underway.
It was revealed earlier this week by director David Yates in an interview with Empire Magazine that the next installment would be taking place in Paris, France, which would put Newt Scamander smack dab in Europe where the infamous dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is currently wrecking havoc. My theory wheel is turning, but you guys don’t need to hear all my theories right now.
Instead, we must focus on casting news.
As revealed today in an exclusive with Deadline, Johnny Depp has been cast in a co-starring role alongside Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them sequel. Unfortunately, that is the only information that was revealed. However, Deadline writer Mike Fleming Jr gives us a little hint that may give us at least a visual clue of Depp’s character:
I’ve confirmed this, but no one is saying exactly what role that Depp will play. But I believe that if you look carefully, you might spot him in a tiny turn in the first installment of the J.K. Rowling-created Harry Potter spinoff.[..]
Until then, all we can do is speculate. I will definitely keep an eye out for any Depp related appearances when Fantastic Beasts comes out. Especially since I’m seeing it at least five times. I’ll find you, Depp. Mark my words!
Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them opens in theaters on November 18, 2016. It is directed by David Yates and is starring Eddie Redmayne as the ever eccentric Newt Scamander. This movie is author J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut as well.
