For the past couple of weeks 20th Century Fox, director James Mangold, and Hugh Jackman have been posting teasing images to get fans ready for the upcoming Wolverine film titled “Logan“. Today, after much anticipation build up, 20th Century Fox released the first official trailer for Logan.

It is very obvious that this film will be different from its predecessors. My general first impressions are that the film is a lot more simple than the majority of the X-Men franchise films, especially in recent years, and that this film appears to be a lot more grounded compared to other films in the franchise. Both of these things may work in the film’s favor for promotion.

The actual plot that is revealed in the trailer is rather simple, which is another thing that sets it apart from recent X-Men films. The mutants are almost all gone, but there is a mysterious mutant girl that needs saving. Logan and Professor X team up to protect her from the villainous group of Reavers who have been sent to capture her.

The trailer is still very much a teaser and leaves behind unexplored areas and unanswered questions. What is the relevance of albino mutant Caliban (Stephen Merchant) in this film? Who wants the little girl badly enough to hire Reavers? I probably know the answer, but that question is still relevant. All in all, I think the movie shows promise, especially when compared to the previous Wolverine films.

The official synopsis for the film is below:

In 2024, mutant births are severely in decline, and people aren’t sure why. A government-type operation is turning mutant children into killing machines. From this, Logan emerges as a mentor to a mutant girl, who has two claws instead of his three.
