We start off the episode with Lee examining Alice at the GCPD. Alice brings her up to speed about her blood being infected, causing madness in whoever comes in contact with it. She also informs that her brother Jervis has the ability to hypnotize others into doing this bidding. She reveals her brother hypnotized her to get her do things no brother should want. Which is why she is so insistent on him not finding her
But Jervis has not given up the ghost. He makes his home at an abandoned carnival and recruits a group of wrestlers known as the Tweeds. I assume this is supposed to be Gotham’s version of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the henchmen of Mad Hatter in the comics. With the help of the Tweeds, he heads to the GCDP and kidnaps Alice. He takes her back to the carnival and he takes her blood with the intention to use it spread madness through Gotham.
James Gordon finds out that the seed that Jervis planted last episode is still active. Anytime he hears a ticking sound, he goes into a suicidal state. Which is why Jarvis was able to successfully kidnap Alice at the GCPD. Barnes knocks Jim out to stop him from killing himself. Jim wakes up in Lee’s office, where they end up having a talk about their failed relationship. Jim finally admits that he is happy for her.
His partner Harvey Bullock pulls some strings to get Gordon in his care. They go after Jervis to rescue Alice. Jervis triggers Gordon’s suicidal state again, but this time with the power of forgiveness, he is able to break through it. Chaos ensues. In the midst of it, Alice accidentally falls and ends up impaled on a pipe.
How is Cobblepot’s campaign for mayor going? Well it is made clear that Butch and Edward Nygma are not going to be the best of friends. They end up having a rivalry about who can be the most useful to Penguin. Penguin is having none of it however, telling them both to shape up or ship out. In the end up, he ends up winning the election, due to Nygma’s machinations. Yep, Penguin is the new mayor of Gotham. This should be interesting folks.
Meanwhile, fake Bruce and Cat are off to try to track down Ivy. While doing so, Selina decides foolishly to rob a group of thugs. She gets caught of course. She is about to lose some fingers until fake Bruce saves her. He ends up stabbed in the process. When Selena asks to see the wound and see his scars, she realizes that he is not the real Bruce. They have a heart to heart as she tends to his wound which leads to fake Bruce kissing her.
The real Bruce catches up to the fake one on the roof and confronts him about what happened. Fake Bruce assures the real one that Gotham will not see him again and leaps down from the roof like a cat. But not before a parting shot where he reveals to Bruce that Selina kissed him. He intends to make good on that promise to leave until the leader of the Court of Owl catches up with him. She implies she is responsible for creating him. He ends up going with her.
We end the episode with Barnes still investigating the scene where Alice met her untimely demise. The pipe that impaled her is still covered with her blood. Guess no one got the memo about her blood being infected. A bit of it drips onto Barnes’s head which leads to him immediately going nuts. Uh oh folks. This is not going to be good.
Stay tuned to see exactly where this leads. I have a feeling whatever is going to go down, it is not going to be pretty.
