Recently at the CW’s Television Critics Association summer press tour presentation, Greg Berlanti announced that in addition to the four-way mega crossover between all the DC shows, there will also be a two part musical crossover between The Flash and Supergirl.
With Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist’s histories on Glee, along with the musical talents of many of the other cast members on the two shows, this announcement is an answer to something fans have been hoping for since the first flash/Supergirl crossover.
Berlanti didn’t reveal many details about the episodes, only that they mostly use existing songs. But we’ve got a source familiar with the production and they’ve told us some pretty incredible news.
We’ve learned that the director of both episodes of the crossover is going to be none other than Joss Whedon. Whedon is obviously a big fan of musicals; he made the classic musical episode of Buffy, Once More With Feeling, and directed an episode of Glee’s first season. He also made the musical webseries Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog, starring Neil Patrick Harris.
Speaking of Harris, our source also tells us that the villain of the crossover will be the Music Meister, a character that was created for the musical episode of the animated series Batman The Brave and The Bold, and was voiced by Harris. This is pure speculation on our part, but given Harris’s love of musicals and his history with both the character and Whedon, we would be shocked if conversations didn’t take place about Harris appearing as the Music Meister.
While our source assures us that Whedon’s involvement is locked, we’ve reached out to The CW for confirmation and have yet to receive a response.
Also let us not forget about this gem from Carlos Valdes:
