Jim Broadbent has been cast in an undisclosed role for the upcoming seventh season of Game of Thrones. Jim Broadbent is known for his roles in the Harry Potter franchise, playing Horace Slughorn. He is also known for his roles in Moulin Rouge!, Time Bandits, Bridget Jones Diary, and won a best supporting Oscar for his role in Iris.

Since the team behind Game of Thrones is notorious for not revealing spoilers, instead giving us the most vague of information. All the information we have is that the role Jim Broadbent will be playing is a “significant” role in the series. We could always try to guess which character he’ll play from A Song of Ice and Fire series, but that would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. This means anything goes!

Things are rather complicated due to the fact that George R. R. Martin has yet to release the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, which means that nothing can truly be predicted. The show has now surpassed the books. We saw this transition from book material to original show material happen last season with mixed results.

Season 7 will begin production late fall due to a need to shoot in harsher winter conditions. This delay in filming is the reason behind why we will not get a season premiere in April like we normally do. Instead the new season will premiere in the summer of 2017. The new season will only have 7 episodes instead of the usual 10. Until then, while we wait for the series to start filming, we just have to wait and see what news will be released next.

Who do you think Jim Broadbent will play in Game of Thrones? Are there any theories that you have surrounding his character? Let us know in the comments below.
