Deadpool was a surprise smash hit for Fox, making huge box office on the back of a very modest budget for a modern superhero film. So it wasn’t a surprise when Fox fast-tracked development on a sequel, which still doesn’t have a release date but should be expected to come out in the next couple of years. It should also come as no surprise that Deadpool 2 is likely to include the character Cable; after all, Deadpool himself said Cable was gonna be in the movie during Deadpool‘s end credits scene.
More surprising, though, is the man Fox is reportedly looking to cast as the grizzled time traveller. In the latest episode of Meet the Movie Press, Mashable’s Jeff Sneider claims that Kyle Chandler is currently the name being bandied about the Fox lot.
Kyle Chandler is best known for playing dads in Friday Night Lights, Super 8, and Bloodline. I’m not super familiar with the character of Cable, but I’m pretty sure he’s not a dad, so I’ve gotta say, if Fox really goes with Chandler that wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Honestly, as long as Stephen Lang continues to exist I don’t why you would cast anyone else. Lang even wants to play the part! I don’t know, maybe his quote’s too high.
Sneider also mentions that Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire) is being looked at to play Domino, but stresses that these are just rumors and shouldn’t be taken as a sure thing.
At any rate, Deadpool 2 will hit theaters eventually and star people. Who do you think should be in it? Still pulling for a shock Kiera Knightly casting? Let us know.
