Batman ’66 is Getting Animated

A 50-year-old television show is getting a new animated movie later this year, because apparently there are still people alive who like it.

I kid, I kid. The 1960’s Batman series, starring Adam West and Burt Ward, is a piece of camp genius. Any show that has the Joker use a device called The Surfing Experience & Ability Transferometer gains my automatic seal of approval. So it’s actually pretty cool that surviving members of the show’s cast are getting together to voice an animated movie set in the world of the show.

The new comes via Entertainment Weekly, though there’s not a whole lot of info yet, beyond a wonderfully bizarre trailer. West, Ward, and Julie Newmar are returning to voice Batman, Robin, and Catwoman, respectively, in Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader. In addition to Catwoman, the Dynamic Duo will face off against all the mainstay villains of the show: Joker, Penguin, and Riddler.

And that’s really all we know. Oh, also it’s being released digitally on October 11, and on Blu-Ray on November 1. Head on over to EW to watch their exclusive trailer, and then come back and let us know what you think. Are you excited to see Batman ’66 make an animated comeback?
